I am trying to use the cpyfrmimpf command to transfer data to a physical file. I continue to get the error message with reason code 4. We are running V4R5 – PTF at cumulative level: TL02169. I don't have the option to replace null values. Does anyone have a work around?

CPF2845
4 – The data for field *N of the TOFILE does not allow nulls, or the from
file does not have enough fields for the TOFILE. The TOFILE does not support
nulls.

Are you sure you don’t have the option for replacing null values — when prompting, if you press F9 to see all parameters, or keep pressing Enter as you build the command, the null value prompt should come up near the end. The keyword is RPLNULLVAL.

Or this could be caused by a field count mismatch. What is the format of your FromFile? Is it a .CSV file? If so, have you verified that your ToFile has a matching number of fields for each delimited column in the .CSV? If not a .CSV, then you may need to adjust the parameter values your using in the CPYFRMIMPF command. Sometimes, I have to play with and experiment with the command parameters to get it to do what I want, depending on the source of the data and where I want to put it.

Try using the CPYFRMSTMF/CPYTOSTMF rather than the cpyfrmimpf command . There is sometimes a problem with the CCSID’s of 65536 not being translated.
