I have just built a pc with the following spec,
Intel Pentium D 945 3.4GHz (800MHz) 64B Bit 4MB
250GB Sata HDD
MSI P965 S775 Neo CORE2DUO Mainboard
Liton DVD recorder
1GB Corsair DDR 2 Memory
Everything is fine except when i try to burn a cddvd, the cpu usage increases dramaticaly (with nero and Alcohol 120%) iv'e changed the optical drive, drives and software but no luck..
Can someone please help..

This probably will not resolve your CPU issue, but I have found that most IDE drives are now shipped with the selection as Cable Select. Changing this to Master or Slave helps a lot of issues. Also, if the drive is on IDE0 move it to IDE1 (or IDE1 to IDE2 depending on how the MB is marked).
When you are burning a disk, are you also converting the files to another format? This will increase your CPU usage for sure. You do not, however mention where your CPU usage ends up? 50%, 75%, 100%? And do you se this usage increase for both cores or only one?
the mobo only has one ide slot, apparantly it uses a drver by jmicron corp or something similar..
I have already changed the drive to master (there is only one optical drive) the cpu usage fluctuates between very high usage and very low usage (i am not sure how i can check the usage for the second core, as i can only see the output of one cpu in the task manager)
The files are not being converted, the same problem occurs when io try to create an image of a cd or dvd..
hope to hear from you soon..
Thanks

Are you experiencing a slowdown in the other programs that are running i.e. sluggish computer? Is your computer at minimum a P3-500Mhz?
Are you experiencing any buffer underruns on the CD Writer?
Actually I believe the high cpu usage is not something to be alarmed about as cd writng software when burning usually runs at high priority to prevent the cd writer from running out of data and creating a bad disk (coaster)
it’s a 3.4Ghz Dual Core CPU, so i don’t see why i am experiencing the particular problem..

If yo ulook at the performance tab of the Task manager, yu should see both cores represented in the graph portion of the page. It will show the usage of each core in graph form so you can get an idea of the usage, not he actual figure.
I agree with you. While I am burning DVEDs, I can easily use other programs while the burn process is proceeding with no ill effects.
Nero does not give me any problems. I’ve not used the other program you have mentioned. I am usign Nero 6.6x.
