We have a thin client in the building next door that we use to swipe for Time & Attendance. It's been up and running fine since December 2006 without any problems. Around April 1, 2008 the session started dropping off. The system error log displayed CPF5140. It states that it could be networking, or someone powered off the system.
We thought it was a networking problem and persueded that. There is a 2nd thin client used for AS/400 emulation and e-mail only. It has never been interrupted. Even after reversing the cables on the two the T&A client dropped and the E-Mail client did not.
Since this happened we have added a UPS in the area, replaced the external supply on the client, sheilded the ends on the client and this still happens. In addition we tried to connect to the AS/400 several times with and without the external power supply. In every case we connected immediately when running from the internal battery, and the session frooze when using the external power supply.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
