I have been working on the System/38 and it's tag along products over 25 years and never have I felt a real need to change platforms as I have watched with great admiration at how skillfully IBM had enhanced the product line, AS/400, iSeries, System i and now IBM i to meet and continue to beat the competition. Even today the rest of the industry is trying to use the best parts of the system like virtual processing, (VMWare) and many other things that still make this machine the best box on the planet for basic business functionality. I would suggest that to keep employeed that you continue to enhance your education when possible by learning the newest features so you can stay ahead of the curve when companies want to move to other things rather than just green screen. If you are a developer, learn about the pieces needed to enable Client Server and Web serving. If you are an administrator, then learn about the latest features of partitioning and blades along with external disk support. This machine has been good to me but only by trying to stay somewhat current with the latest changes. If your employer cannot keep up with technology and many cannot, then find seminars or local colleges that are offering the IBM i classes in things like PHP, JAVA or anything new on the IBM i, It will be worth it as you will stand out as an expert in this platform making you very versital in today's market. There are a lot of CL books available from 29th Street Press or from MC Press. I think you should look at the CL Programming book from 29th Street Press by Brian Meyers and Jim Buck. This book has sample CL code and is used by Colleges to teach from. Lovemyi

The 29th Street Press is now using either Amazon or Left-Brain.com to help sell it's books. You will find the CL Porgramming for the IBM i book under the topic IBM i - AS/400. It is really a good book for learning CL. Lovemyi
