Could a honeypot machine risk the secure network?
If I place a honeypot machine on my dmz what are the possible consequences? We want to see the possible issues lurking around us to better prepare for them. If we have a susceptible machine unpatched and asking for it could the rest of the secured network be at risk?

Answer Wiki:
Honeypots in general always seem to create 2 lines of thought. Are they a good thing or a bad thing? Your intention of using it to see what potential threats are nearby whilst not a bad idea has a flip side. Crackers etc are getting good at spotting them and once discovered would then raise the question " if this organisation has a honeypot what are they worried about us finding otherwise?" It may just attract the attention of the unwanted to your secured networks so personally I wouldn't bother unless you are aware of a specific threat you need to manage.
