My company is implementing new features in our product line that will force customers to upgrade to SQL Server 2008. I can't make sense of MS's pricing for SQL Server upgrades any longer (i.e., it seems they've gone away from the notion of a SQL Server 'upgrade' license). Does anyone know a ballpark figure for what it would cost to upgrade from SQL 2000 to 2008, SQL 2005 to 2008 (primarily the Single Processor License) We'd like to be able to tell customers an approximate cost (or roll some of it into our own price, etc.)

So that implies that there is no price discount for an upgrade then? I pay the same thing for SQL Server 2008 license regardless of whether or not I’ve already got SQL Server 2005 or 2000?
Correct, there is no price break for an upgrade. The price is the price. You can get a discount if you purchase via a volume license agreement which will help with the price.
Also prices went up with the release of SQL Server 2008 R2.
