We have definitely seen hard cost advantages to Application Virtualization specifically across MS and other vendors. Where we have seen the strongest performance is where customers are using a combination of App V and System Center Configuration Manager. In the recent TCO study that you have heard us refer to, we had 291 respondents using a variety of software vendor solutions. We saw that there are quantifiable cost savings through an application virtualization implementation equating to $82 per seat per year(Savings in IT/Deployment/Support/management & IT labor). In that same TCO study, we found that organizations with App V + System Center got more benefits than any other combination–85% of all organizations participating in the study say that the integration of management tools is unbeatable.
Apart from the cost savings, the survey also documented that organizations reported non cost benefits such as Reductions in cycle time, increase in responsiveness, Increase in business agility and Reduced risk via reduce failure rate in deployment. For a VDI solution, there is initial infrastructure cost and the ROI may be more incremental. For VDI, we have seen customers realize benefits around security and compliance and flexibility and continuity versus cost savings.
