I have a PST file (207Mb). When I try and open it in Outlook I am getting the error msg that the file is not a Personal Folder File. I have ran Scanpst over a copy of the file and it returns an empty file. Can anyone help, I really need to get to the data!! Thanks Jill

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

You do not say which version of Outlook you are using, however, I’m pretty sure that the size limit of the pst has been exceeded. Have you looked at Microsoft’s Office Support Knowledge Base? There are many suggestions and tools available there. I’ve seen a truncation tool available from Microsoft which may work for you.

The PST limit is 2 gigs. There is a PST Repair utility found with outlook called scanpst.exe found in C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemMapi1033NT. (assuming you did not change the install defaults.) check these articles http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP030896251033.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=197315

There is no 2 gig limit with OL 2003 but if you are only at 2mb that's not the issue anyway.

Hi Jill, Make sure the file isn't marked read-only. If it's on a CD, move it to your hard drive and remove the read-only attribute. Also, you should simply open the file in Outlook using File | Open, rather than importing from it -- you'll retain the most data and settings that way. Regards, Nilesh Roy.

Thanks for your help so far but I have already tried everything you suggested. If I try to import or open through Outlook I get the msg that "Not a Personal Folder". Scanpst finds errors in the file but does not repair it. I am getting pretty desperate!

Hi all, Wht i suggest is it would be better if u try to open this PST using older MS outlook version rather then in 2003. Like u can open it using MS Outlook 2000. try this. If still the same persists then let me know......will try some alternative......... cheers.

Thanks for that but I have tried that too. I have tried a number of things including a suggestion of changing the Hex is the file but that did not work either. (I have the original copy).
