What is the difference/significance of a core 2 and core 4 processor?

A dual core system has 2 processors and a quad core has 4. The more the merrier as long as your OS/applications can take advantage of multiple processors.

Not sure what exactly what you’re asking, there is no CPU labeled core 4. There’s the core2duo and the core2quad. Differences here would be core count, dual or quad, and L2 cache memory. Typically quad cores have twice the cache that dual cores have. Duals could have upto 4M, for quad could be 6-8M.
