Think for a second, how will Word, or any application 'know' what to copy to the clipboard, if you don't? *** End Update *** Place the cursor at the beginning of the text you want to copy. The scroll down using the scroll bar to display the end of the text block (note: you are NOT click dragging). Then <shift>-<click> and all the text between the original cursor location and the <shift>-<click> location will be highlighted. Copy and pate as usual.
