Copy files, directories and links in Linux

Can someone tell me the right way to copy files, directories and soft links from one Linux server to another Linux server? I am using scp to copy file and it works perfect.

u may use the following commands other than scp….

1. rsync -e ssh [-avz] /some/file [ more … ] host.name:/destination/file

2. tar -cf – /some/file | ssh host.name tar -xf – -C /destination

or u may use smb command.
