From a desktop, you will need iSeries Client Access, a software application that must be installed on the workstation:

you can use iseries Access , Mocha Soft , Telet softwares (5250)

From MS-DOS ( from dos prompt type Telnet and your server IP# )

You mean a software or the actual physical connection?
Physical connection you can connect to it via Twinax or TCP/IP.
Software connection, you can actually just use a Telnet program. You don’t need a special software but there are many out there on the market. Just look for a 5250 package and you should be all set and ready to go.
