Hi, How can I connect to the Internet via VMware with virtual operating system (Windows)?

Answer Wiki

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

Hi,

Try to use a NAT network in the guest machine, this way you will use the same network in guest and virtual machines.

If you want to use another ip address in the guest machine, then create a bridged network between the host and guest machines.

Refer to this guide for more information. Hope this helps.

Best regards!

What version of VMware are you using? Workstation, Server, ESX? How is your networking setup?

Hi I'm using VMWare Worksation (ver 6.5) and i want to connect to the internet using a VM (win 2003 server OS) I configured the VM Network adapter to use NAT option ( there are other options such as Bridged and Host only). as i realized, VMWare uses the VMNet 8 Virtual switch to connect to the physical NIC on my host. it has created a Virtual network adapter connection with name VMNet8 in my host's connections folder and is by default disabled. (but i enabled it) on the other hand, on my host, I have a wireless connection that connects me to the internet using an access point. with the above settings i can't access the internet via the VM. I tried many different ways but they didn't work, and now I'm at my wit's end!! do you have any idea? thanks for your help!

Can you ping the host from the virtual machines? Can you ping the hosts default gateways IP from the guest?
