Basic Commercial DSL service will work fine for you. As for Remote access, you have several options:
1. Purchase and Configure a VPN device
2. Setup Terminal Server Services
3. Setup a router to home router VPN
4. Install a remote client, like PC Anywhere on the server.

I agree - as long as the pricing is right and you don't have to have guaranteed up time, DSL is fine. I had a client who was considering changing to DSL to save money but they couldn't because the provider couldn't guarantee any level of service. Keep that in mind. A WIndows Server running a PPTP VPN via Routing and Remote Access works like a charm - and it's "free".
