Hi all, I have a need to connect to both Cisco PIXes and Linksys BEFSX41 VPN endpoint firewalls, and would prefer to not have to switch VPN clients. Is it possible to create a VPN tunnel to a BEFSX41 using the Cisco Systems VPN Client software? I'm currently using version 4.6.01.0019. I'm not exactly sure what firmware versions are running on the Linksys devices, but can find out if neccessary. Thanks, Jonathan

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

In theory any two IPsec devices can be configured to be compatible with each other. In practice some vendors like cisco have added proprietary extensions. I checked the compatibility of cisco and linksys with freeswan and the results weren’t very encouraging. I would try some experiments. See if you can get a least common denominator configuration working between them. If you can get that to work then change one parameter at a time until you find a configuration that works and gives adequate security.

Normally I'm not all that fascinated or curious about this kind of thing, but your post has shown me the error of my ways. My thanks to you for taking the time out of your day to write about something like this.
