Configuring a disaster recovery plan for Exchange Server 2007
I have disaster recovery plan for my Exchange server in mind, but I like to know if you have any idea how to configure it appropriately.

I have a production server running Exchange Server 2007, and I backup with Data Protection Manager 2007 every 15 minutes. I like to have a virtual machine on a virtual server with the same operating system and tools available on the production server. Now, with DPM running every 15 minutes automatically, the recovery points from DPM to this virtual machine over Exchange.

In this way, if the production server could be taken offline with no repair, and I'd have no have CCR or LCR, I could change the name and IP address of the new server and reset the computer in the Active Directory.

Is there a way to configure this plan to work?

Answer Wiki:
I would recommend you look at a solution from Xosoft called High Availablity for Exchange. This tool will help keep a "secondary" Exchange server updated with your primary. With the tool, you can test "recovery". The tool when your primary goes down, the secondary can take ownership and change your DNS settings so your Outlook clients are automatically redirected to the "secondary" server. I've deployed it and it works great. I highly recommend this solution.
