Compatabiity of PcAnywhere and AVG (free) and AVG (paid)

For years PcAnywhere 11.0 has been used to access some remote computers. When the licenses for Trend Micro were up on three computers, Trend Micro was removed and AVG (free) was installed. Access to the remote computers ceased but access to things like Retrospect (port 497)continued without difficulty. A license for AVG (paid) was obtained and AVG was installed and activated on the initiating computer, but the three computers remained unable to be accessed remotely. There seemed to be no way to access the remote computers and the assumpthion that purchasing the AVG (paid) with its support claimed has not proven to be true as the queries to AVG support are ignored. Does anyone have insight on how to set the (free) version in relation to PcAnywhere? Is the AVG product able to accommodate PcAnywhere at all? Is there some configuration of (paid/unpaid) that will work? Do they even deal with the concept of ports? Has anyone accomplished driving remote computers with PcAnywhere with AVG in the loop? Should I just chuck AVG and reinstall Trend Micro? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

On the Remote at my home, AVG 8.0 is installed. At the office (host) AVG Free is installed. AVG has no firewall software built in and is simply a Antivirus program. Are your ports forwarded correctly? Have you opened ports 5631-2 on your router?

Check out this article on opening firewall ports if you haven’t done that (this is almost always the problem – unless you have the Windows Firewall on!)
