An obvious answer is that the program should start with PGM, but that doesn’t seem what you’re asking. What does your program look like so far? We can’t do it for you. — Tom

…please provide complete description.

A “complete description” is possibly just a copy of a classroom assignment. Asking for additional information before providing an answer is a way to find out how much interest there is.

If the OP simply goes away, it might indicate that the deadline for turning in an assignment has passed or that the answer was already found elsewhere. Regardless, if the OP is unwilling to have a dialog, it’s reasonable to assume that it’s not a conversation with an IT pro.

Hmmm… I posted a response earlier… seems it was removed… Probably because I disagreed with Toms remark about “We can’t do it for you”. Tom this is a forum based on questions and your remark was at best way out in left field. All I needed was a nodge in the right direction.
I found my answer by starting my read here http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/index.htm?info/cl/rtvsysva.htm
Tom,
I have 40 years in the IT industry… What’s an IT Pro, you?

Probably not. A likely reason it hadn’t appeared yet was that it contained one or more links. An approval requirement can be triggered by links in discussion posts.

I made a mistake previously by not reviewing your profile to see your previous activity. My only defense is the regular flood of student requests for members to do their assignments for them. The question was vague enough that it had no apparent business purpose. A short dialog would establish validity.

I’ve also broken the 40-year mark, but longevity isn’t a measure of professionalism. An example of missing the “IT pro” mark is my missing a check of your profile. I shouldn’t have let a habit blind me. In checking your profile, though, I see that it’s empty. An IT pro might put enough info in it to give an idea of who is on the other end. It’s impossible to know what statements can be made without knowing what will be understood.

But participation in the forum by an “IT pro” should also mean reviewing enough questions to see that students are always trying to get their assignments done. And a professional spec should have a clear business purpose. That can be established by simple, short dialog for the purposes of this. An IT pro should have no difficulty recognizing the need for it.

Another flag that should indicate an IT pro would be listing important system requirements. You latest comment includes a link that goes all the way back to V5R1. Because of major changes to CL in V5R3 and V5R4, the OS version was an important item missing from the spec. The same CL function written for V5R4 should look very different from one for V5R1. It definitely wouldn’t compile, and V5R4 is an old release that’s been out of marketing for a year and a half. Providing an example might have not have worked. But we still don’t really know what OS version is involved.

I’ll work on remembering to check profiles in the future and I apologize for missing it this time. I’ll recommend, though, that future questions include enough info to know how to answer. A lot of time can be saved.

Hi lotofbad – I see that you’ve approved an answer above; was there another response you’d added in the comments? I’m not seeing anything that needs to be approved on the back end. Sometimes posts do get delayed when they include links.
