I have got two bachelor of science degrees: in electrical engineering and computer science, from a university in africa. I have experience in public telephone switch (such as DMS 100 from Nortel, AXE-0 from Ericsson) and PABX (Alcatel OmniPCX 4400). What do you advise me I need to do to get employment opportunities and advance my career in US/Canada?

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

A proven method is to stop focusing on the technical minutiae and instead  focus on yourself. That is, your:

  • communication skills
  • time management
  • goal setting and management
  • business savvy

As I wrote for TechTarget’s SearchWinIT.com not long ago: Your title is worthless; your value is priceless.

I wish you all the best!

Welcome to ITKE, CommEng, and good luck in your job search. One place to start would be to check out our IT Careers blog, where Ed Tittel offers some good advice. You'll likely want to look into certifications as well.
