combination of primary file and full procedural files

I am using in a RPGLE program a combination of a primary file and 2 full procedural files. when the cycle reads first record from the primary file it has to retrieve some more information from the other two files and them write to the printer file.Can anybody help me out on this...thanks in advance...Ram

Hi,

If you use a primary file, the program will automatically read the records from the primary. For the full procedural files you will need to use read or chain to get the data into the program.

    Hi thanks for your answer. I too know that but how i can exactly know (the exact point)that the system is reading the first record, 2nd record and so on from the primary file and then chain to those keyvalues to retrievethe other information from other files is still a mystery. It is of great help if you can answer this. regards Ram

    Hi, The program will read a record from your primary file, then process your (mainline) C specifications, then read another record then process your C specs again. So for example :- Files PRIMARY IP SECOND IF THIRD IF C Specs Key1 Chain SECOND Key2 Chain THIRD In this example the program will read every record from file PRIMARY and chain to SECOND and THIRD for every record found.
