    I don't understand what you need to know. You use a timestamp value to store in timestamp data items, to compare against other timestamp values, to display or print as a timestamp data item. That's no different from character values or numeric values or any other value.

    Please clarify your question. Are you asking about COBOL/400 or ILE COBOL?
