Can someone point me to some recent real world information about CMDB? The tools, the implementation, approaches, realistic expectations. I am a data guy and understand the complexities of the underlying data. I am having a hard time getting my arms around what are realistic expectations and what the the industry is currently capable of.

Thanks. SB

There is a wealth of information on the configuration, tools, etc. A simple Google search reveals probably more information than you could possibly use. Here is the search string results from my search: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&biw=1415&bih=692&q=cmdb+tools&oq=CMDB&aq=7&aqi=g10&aql=undefined&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=1671l1671l0l1l1l0l0l0l0l125l125l0.1l1

Thats why I asked the question. Most of the info I found was out of date, contradictory, vendor tainted, etc. I had spent a lot of time filtering through the garbage. 2 good papers I have found since that were very helpful - One from the CA web site called - IT ALIGNMENT THROUGH THE CMDB AND SERVICE CATALOG (We will be using CAs Service One products but its still a decent white paper.) Another from Numera Software called - Configuration Management Explained This was very good on architecture, project design and pitfalls, etc. Both are in PDF format and I had to register to get them but they were worth it to me. If anyone has anything else theyd like to contribute it would be appreciated. Thanks. SB
