 Cloud certification — worth it?
Any contractors out there found that getting cloud-specific certifications makes a difference in getting hired for a project? Seems like it's an emphasis (for Microsoft particularly) right now, but I'm not sure it's worth it. Seems like knowledge of individual technologies that contribute to cloud would be more worthwhile.

I'll say this right now, if you don't have the certs today, most places will not even consider hiring you.  With that said, we have hired a few people here to help us go virtual from a contractor and the DOD required them to have their certs, and one them was Security+ as a MUST!!!  So if you are considering being hired by the DOD either for a short term or long term, ensure that your Security+ is valid or you will not be considered for the job.  And to be hired for that specific job, i.e. going to the cloud (vsphere), it needs to also be current.

Good luck

Thanks Haris – I don’t (or haven’t) done government work, but makes sense that cert requirements would be especially important there. Sounds like you’re also saying that both Microsoft and VMware certs would be useful. Or would you recommend specializing in one or the other?

It looks like there’s a new VCP-Cloud credential. Another data point that shows why you should be thinking about these kinds of certifications.
