Q:
Outlook 2003 clients connectivity issues
Hi,

Ok here is the issue our outlook clients recieve errors "error connecting to (GC)" and "error trying to retrieve data from exchange server" We also have system hangs when opening other users calenders. This is not every user but a large amount of them.

Usebase is around 1200

And our setup is a central exchange 2003 system clustered with two GC's in the same site. We have 18 offices spread accross the WAN with very good connectivity most have 4mb leased on our PMLS network. Each site has a GC no firewall due to MPLS. All WAN clients connect with Outlook 2003 in cached mode. We also offer OWA via Citrix.

Although the DSProxy is set to automatic it only uses the two local DC's for GC's. We are also seeing RPC over HTTPS referras even though this has not been configured in client roll out.

General server performance seems ok from what Spotlight returns most issues reported from Clients.

Thanks in advance for you help.

This error his hard to troubleshoot because it can be several things, but basically it is telling you that it is taking an unusually long time to recieve exchange data. The error is very common, but if it becomes an issue here's a small list of what to check and/or improve:

1. GC and Exchange server performance issues.
2. WAN network performance and network performance in general.
3. Reduce large mailbox sizes

This is not a complete list, but it is a start.
