Yesterday the print cartridge on our new HP1505N printer got jammed. I cannot get the AS-400 printer message to clear. I have disconnected it from the ethernet cable; turned it off at toggle; disconnected power cord from power source; ended the printer/writer, varied it off and back on..and still can't get the message to clear. Any ideas?
Software/Hardware used:
I am at OS/400 V4R5 on a AS-400 model 9402. My network printer is a new to us HP1505N

If you respond, please try to include any message ID.
Tom
This is the message which I cannot clear. I have done everything I know of (20+ year user; not IT professional)….to clear this..last night I even blew away the printer/writer devd and re-created it…..

Neither ‘C’ nor ‘R’ helps, although ‘R’ at least gets us to the next spooled file — but only after walking over to the printer and pressing the Print button. (Replying ‘R’ before physically pressing Print doesn’t work.)
In short, I’m fighting the same problem. If I narrow down a solution, I’ll post it here. I’m sure it’s in the *DEVD, but haven’t hit the right combination yet.
Tom
YES–so you are getting the spool out put by pressing the button, like the paper had been “out”….??? We have been moving to a nearby printer….
Thanks Tom, this gives me a “better” fix for the time being………
I had hoped that maybe my normal Monday morning IPL would clear the error as this printer did actually work as we had hoped for 3 work days ……
We need more precise information about the message.

Makes sense, more or less. I’d certainly complain to IBM about it though.
Now if I can only track down why our “out of the box, standard setup” new HP printer is doing the same thing…
Tom
This situation recurred 2 weeks ago (21 months later) and I found the same method worked (and this is the only thing that has worked for me) was to replace the ink cartridge. Both in 2010 and again last week, the PC which is a dedicated United Parcel Service connection showed a screen displaying “Congratulations, you have installed a genuine HP cartridge.
After this message appeared on the “UPS” computer screen, the network printer which is linked to both that PC and the PC which is running the AS-400 through client access began accepting spool files from the AS-400 again and printing them. The UPS PC prints documents to the same printer but those documents did not stop printing either in 2010, when we first saw this problem; or this last 2 weeks.
Tom, what value do you have for the PRTERRMSG parameter in the device description? Had a similar problem with an HP 4015n – changing PRTERRMSG from *INQ to *INFO stopped that particular annoyance.
…changing PRTERRMSG from *INQ to *INFO stopped that particular annoyance.
After changing it, ending the writer, varying device off/on, starting the writer, I now get a writer message — CPI404F “Problem with device LJ6PIP.” It’s not an *INQ message though. The printer status still needs to be cleared manually.
But at least I don’t have to reply. Maybe small, but it’s an improvement.
