CISCO VPN Client – Virtual Adaptor Issues
OS: Windows XP Proffesional SP3

Over the Christmas Holiday period I had a total failure of my Computer system.  The system was restored from original CDs, ALL updates received from Microsoft.  All is now working well with all programmes loaded EXCEPT for Cisco VPN Client.

Prior to the failure I was using VPN Client with my Company for access to Company emails with v5.0.00.0340 with my company connection entry with no issues at all.

Since re-installing same version and connection entry I keep receiving the Reason 442: Failed to enable Virtual Adaptor.

The programme has been deleted from my system (including manual) a number of times and re-installed with the same result.

I have gone through almost everything I can find on the web in relation to this issue but nothing has worked.

Can anyone help me please.

Answer Wiki:
This already happened to a computer I had to fix. The solution is quite simple. Keep the list handy, because this problem usually appears when the connection is not cleanly closed (unplugging network while connected, computer suspend, etc) This is how to solve: 1 - Start Menu 2 - Network 3 - Click on Network Sharing 4 - Click on Manage Networks and in the new window opened 5 - Right Click on Cisco Adapter and click on Diaognise. 6 - Reset the Network adapter 7 - There will be a message stating that there is limited connectivity and you shouldn't bother with. 8 - Restart the machine. 9 - After restart, try to connecti to VPN. If you can, update your Cisco VPN client. Newer versions don't have that bug.
