How about using irb (integrated routing and bridging) or CRB? The BVI interface just responds with one IP Address.
Anyone has any answers – against this comment or agreeing with this please ? More discussion welcome..

I may be interpreting this incorrectly but I see this question as two ports on the same router. If you want several ports to be redundant links between devices the cisco technology is called etherchannel. With other brands the equivalent is called IEEE 802.3ad Link Aggregation Control Protocol. These are normally done to increase bandwidth but I know etherchannel claims to handle link failures.
If you really have redundant cisco routers the old protocol is Hot Standby Routing Protocol and the newer and less buggy equivalent is Virtual Redundant Routing Protocol. You will have to verify if your routers do both HSRP and VRRP or just the older version.

I agree with Howard2nd: Cisco routers support ‘fallover’ requests, but it depends on the router and the IOS version you have. Can you be more specific?
