It is in the form of something called .tar file. Which hopefully I’ve extracted correctly to a .bin file (?). Now I’d appreciate help in ‘flashing’ it to the switch from my laptop.?

The switch seems to boot up correctly since you are getting the “switch:” prompt. Can you show us what happens when you type “enable”? Does it give you an error or anything? Your prompt should change to “switch#” to configure your switch.
