Linksys switches are typically lower “quality” and do not have the same feature set as the standard Cisco branded switches. Linksys was purchased by Cisco. Cisco has not fully implemented the feature set on the Linksys devices. If you have a choice of what to purchase for your organization, go with the full featured Cisco device and not the Cisco branded Linksys. The management features are worth the price difference.

I’ve used both Cisco and Linksys equipment in a manufacturing environment. I agree with the above answer. Not only is the switch management capability worth the price, the Cisco gear seems to have fewer problems as far as power fluctuations and basic physical durability. The ability to remotely manage the device, as well as a higher “up time” makes for a better value over the years the switch will be in service. My grandfather often told me, “If you buy the best tools you can afford, you usually won’t have to buy them again.” I think this wisdom applies here, get the good gear.
