    "Edit the code....", did u mean kernel compilation or change any system script which run background generally ! See Kernel Compilation is a process which led to fatal, if u don't have enough expertization.... (and I hope u have the same expertization).... Kernel compilation needs when a new HW installs in the system or upgrade any sw which needs higher version of kernel. One disadvantage is that u don't have any support from the said vendor after compiling the kernel without interacting with them. It is possible to insert ur own script related system work with related commands. If u please provide more details what code and why means just for experiment etc., so it will more helpful to provide info.
