I know the Answer to this question will vary between each person, but out of all the certifications out there which ones will help out the most for a person trying to get into IT/Networking.

If you are just starting out in IT get your A+. If you have been around computers and know them well enough go for your MCSE and then maybe a CCNA.

    I would choose your field very very carefully. I have been contracting for over 10 years now and when I first started Novell CNE was the certification to have. Then, as if overnight, the bottom fell out of the market and Windows NT paid really well and was in great demand. Since lately Cisco has also come and gone. I personally have been in Network Management and Unix which has been relatively steady till lately. Don't choose an area that is really big and in demand now as there will be zillions of others like you certifying in the same subject. Choose a niche subject and be the king and have a longevity of career.

    Not knowing what country you are in and it may very but a good start would be a diploma in IT with this you will get a sound background in most areas of IT, then you can go on to do your A+ if you like hardware or Do your MCSE if you are into Microsoft but you will need the basic skills first.
