Answer Wiki:
The CCENT does cover basic networking fundamentals, but it also gives you some knowledge of the Cisco IOS, so it is an equivalent if not better certification than the Network+. ------------------------------------- Go for the CCENT, it covers all that the network+ covers, plus opens the door to other Cisco certs - CCNA, CCNP, etc.. The CCENT DOES use Cisco IOS devices to teach the concepts, but those ideas and techniques can be easily ported to HP, Dell or other Vendor devices..

I agree with the previous poster, but also wish to observe that, as you’d expect, Cisco training is going to focus almost exclusively on Cisco tools, platforms, and technologies. If you go after Network+ you will be exposed to a broader horizon of such things, but in somewhat less detail. Cisco’s learning tools are very good, and they offer lots of support and infrastructure to learners, too. Network+ is likely to be more of a hit or miss proposition depending on how you learn the material involved.

That’s why I agree with the previous poster, FWIW. That said, the exams are cheap and the time investment is not that great to earn either one. You could conceivably do best for yourself, by doing Network+ first, and then CCENT second, and earning both credentials.
