The Stranded Shielding of the cable connects to the metal casing on the plug.

If you go to www.siemon.com there is an instructional video on shielded terminations! That should fix you right up.

I find myself wondering why you are using shielded cable.
I would suggest that a specific crimper would be required. I have installed miles of CAT5/5E/6 wire and have never used shielded cable. All installations are still working perfectly and they are in a broad range of environments. I Googled for it and didn’t find anything helpful. I would sugget that there might be some info available from a manufacturer……better yet, if it isn’t a long run, buy a premade cable. This will offer a much better termination quality and could save trouble if a home made cable isn’t exact.

Good luck

I also wonder why the shielded cable. Is there a really good reason for not using regular CAT 5? Unless there is serious RF interference at your site, you should not need to bother with the shielding.

The cabling is running in a Aluminium Foundry and will be used to transmit data from machines within the foundry.
We have a lot of High voltage cables and machines and I am going to use shielded cable to make sure that none of these interfere with the data

Thanks for all your help I have managed to get my first cable wired up and it works

Sounds like a great environment for shielded cable. Well done on the first one working, and good luck
