We have an IBM TS3100 tape library attached to an iSeries, but no media management software.     Is there any way to change the external cartridge id ?   INZTAP always defaults to the meaningless cartridge id.

Software/Hardware used:
V6 R1 TS3100 tape library

Thanks. We'll let you know when a new response is added.

I have also been looking around the web for the solution for the same problem. I have been wanting to change the external cartridge ID to no avail. Isn’t there anyone out there who can help?

Yes, there is a way to change the external cartridge id, is a little bit winding but it works. Enter the command WRKTAPCTG to make an inventory of the cartridges on the tape library. The cartridges will have to be with status * INSERTED. Then you must add a single cartridge (ADDTAPCTG) and change the status to *MOUNTED. Next you have to varyoff the TAPMLB01 resource and varyon TAP01 device. Inicialize with INZTAP command and change the VOLID of the cartridge. Varyoff TAP01 and VARYON TAPMLB01. Enter WRKTAPCTG again and put option 10 behind the cartridge id, that this time will have the desired name, and then you can change the VOLID to the same name of the cartridge ID. Repeat this procedure for the other cartridges. Good luck :)
