I have noticed an odd possible coincidence. With IE 8, the last change in behavior had me needing to refresh as many as half a dozen times before all of the edit widgets would appear and work. I looked for options and found View-> Encoding-> Auto-select.

For some reason, disabling and then re-enabling that almost always clears it up. Deselect does nothing, but re-select causes a page refresh that clears it up. Only once did it not clear it the first time. It’s been much faster than a series of refresh cycles.

My guess is some slight difference in timing in downloading .js files and rendering rather than a direct fix from the function. This wouldn’t have anything to do with line breaks, but it might indicate an architectural element that connects one change to another.

It worked just now when I switched to IE for this comment.

In IE, after I use the [enter] key in a ‘Discussion’ item, I can select the ‘Show source’ tool to see the source of my text. I’ll see tags for begin- and end-paragraphs. There won’t be any until at least one [enter] key. (In FF, I’ll only see BR tags. Paragraph tags can’t even be put in manually in FF. And the BR tags don’t actually work.) In any case, do you see paragraph tags in the source? — Tom
