Career Path

IT Career, SAP NetWeaver and enterprise SOA, SAP MM, Future of SAP MM ?

I am basically a Mechanical Engineer and have a work experience of 3.5 years of working in an esteemed Automobile Manufacturing Company in India.I was working in Materials Management department and was responsible for end to end part development of various parts used in an Automobile. I was an end user of SAP, mainly creating Purchase Requisitions, Purchase Orders, etc.
I then got certified in SAP MM and am currently working in a well known Software company in India. I am currently placed in a Project dealing with User Acceptance Testing, End User Training etc. for a Shipping company where SAP MM is implemented as a part with their core Shipping Software. They implemented SAP mainly for SAP FICO to improve their Accounting and Costing and to have control on their Agents which perform Business on the behalf of the parent company. I am finding no scope for SAP MM in this project, as implementation is already completed, and even support is also not in the scope of this Project. I am thinking of getting released from this Project.
How should I plan my Career ahead ??? As I am a fresher in SAP, I would not be getting an Implementation Project immediately. All companies in India need atleast one life cycle implementation experience. What kind of Projects should I look for ahead ? What should be my course of action as I complete 1-2 Projects ? Which certicfications should I plan further ?

Secondly, as the SAP Netweaver technology is taking grasp, I have heard that demand for Functional Consultants will reduce, how far is it true and what path should I take to accomodate this fact(if true) with proper buffer ?
