I tried to solve the problem and i did the following:
1-the connectivity exists
2-i tried the OWA and it works.
3-No external/internal sending/recieving
4-the user is using some development applications, i stopped the services related to those applications, but nothing works.
5- i instructed the user to telnet the server but no response on smtp.
6-he tries his account on another machines and it works probably.
Please help me as soon as possible.

Yes, there is a firewall but for all users in the domain, and the XP SP2 firewall is off.
What’s the error message in Outlook? Also, check the logs for this machine’s IP (if the firewall is trusting this IP (in case of internal network, it does), then rules are bypassed)
The eroor message is “you must be online to connect to the server”
Hi,
Apart from this message, can you check the Event Logs and see if any relevant info/error/warning is logged? I believe that the RPC communication is blocked somewhere which is causing this. Please check the logs and get back.
