Can’t connect to vpn since Microsoft Security update
I am trying to connect to a Win 2003 VPN server from a PC running Windows XP Professional wired to a Linksys WRTP54G router (Vonage voIP) and cable modem. On Thursday, January 5, I got the VPN connection working fine. I used it multiple times including rebooting the PC. That night the automatic Windows update applied the patch for the WMF problem. Since then I have not been able to establish a vpn connection. I get Error 800. Any suggestions? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Ajay,
Thanks for your response.
However, since nothing had changed at either end of the VPN connection (except for the Windows XP and Windows 2003 security updates), I don’t see where any of those items apply.

This maybe a stupid idea but sometimes the Windows patches when they are done turn the Microsoft Firewall on and/or change its settings. You might want to check there first.

MadMax2,
Thanks for your reply.
I also thought that might be the problem but the firewall is turned off.

By the way, I have taken the Linksys router out of the path, i.e., I am going directly from my PC to my cable modem, and I get the same error 800 message.

Thanks for the replies and assistance.
It turned out that my DNS was not translating the name. Don’t know why that happened but I am up and running now.
