I do not have a QZLSFILET job running.

And is the QUSRWRK subsystem running?

Users (limited or admin) that are configured on this PC are unable to rename files or folders in the IFS of our System i.

What happens? An error? A message box? No result at all?

Is XP (or later) the standard on most/all PCs? Does the laptop require a logon? (Probably yes, since you mention "(limited or admin)" users.) The other PCs also require logons?

If these are all workgroup systems, how are IP addresses determined? Through a router for all PCs (and the laptop) and shared by the System i? Or are they manually assigned?

It's not easy keeping track of these questions and their resolutions. A couple days went by with no activity and attention went elsewhere. (Not to mention real work.)

That is correct Tom - I do not have a QZLSFILET job running.

The PCs are in a workgroup. This problem PC is a member of the same workgroup and the user that is primarly configured on it works just fine and normal in Lotus Notes (on the System i) as well as any Iseries applications. The problem rears it's head when she is within the Windows Network Neighborhood, accessing documents and folders in the IFS - and only "bites" when she tries to rename a file or directory. No problems creating and no problems deleting!

The users have the same userid and password for the PCs and the network.

I've been leaning towards a configuration issue on the laptop from the beginning but it's beyond me to even guess where to look~

...when signed in from another PC

How are the PCs linked in? Do they join a domain or are they in a workgroup? Do the users sign on to the PCs or to the network?

What domain is NetServer configured for?

Tom-
The odditiy is the same user(s) (that are configured on this laptop) have no issues with Netserver file & directory permissions when signed in from another PC ~ and that's what makes this whole issue crazy! Administrator or Standard user configuration makes no difference. And ALLOBJ authority makes no difference ~ from the perspective of this laptop.
Pulling hair - but I've got an IBM Netserver developer looking into it now
Thanks

Sounds like you should take a close look at permissions. Check to see what user account is being used to access the net server from problem Laptop. Then compare to your permission scheme or to a user currently connecting without issues. You may need to add the user to a specific group or modify the authority of the IFS folders in question.

Tom
They are not directories benearth the QDLS directory. They are directories within the root directory.

I don't have this problem with any other PC in the office.

I do have QZLSFILE jobs running - one for each user. I don't see anything unusual in the job log.

Thanks

When you say "folders", do you mean actual /QDLS folders? Or is that a generic term for "directories"?

Is subsystem QUSRWRK active?

Do you have a job named QZLSFILET running on the system? Does it have anything unusual in its joblog?

There was an issue with WinXP and /QDLS fairly early in V5R4. IIRC, it required both a PTF from IBM and some coordinated fix for WinXP from MS; but I don't see exact IBM Support documents right now. This link to Cannot Delete a File In QDLS, QSYS.LIB or QOPT through IBM iSeries NetServer is related but probably not an exact match. It partly describes changes from MS for Windows Networking that led to changes on the i5/OS side. It's just for some general background about questions I'm asking.
