Cannot install SQL Server 2014 on machine

For the past few days, I've been trying to install SQL Server 2014 on my machine. But this error keeps popping up:
The process cannot access the file 'C:UsersuserAppDataLocalTempSqlwep-uni-(96bf8744-d4b7-4205-920d-cf1b69b6ed88).mof' because it is being used by another process.
Why is this happening? How can I find out which process is using that file? I have Windows 10 and Kaspersky running on the machine too.

More info is needed. Is this a clean install or an upgrade? What is the current configuration? You could always try a reboot in safe mode to do the install, this may prevent your error.

When this message was shown, middle of the installation/start of the installation/ end of the installation? SQL Server has some steps to install properly. Assuming one or more .mdf file (like tempdb or other) may used by another process if it was installed partially. As you mentioned Kaspersky, check that any associated file/process related to SQl Server was blocked by this AV. You can open task manager and check which processes are running related to SQL Server.

Hi, I had the same problem. I solved it by running setup.exe by super user(Run as Administrator).
