Cannot connect using VNC, or Ping past my local exchange ? ?
Hi I've been trying to connect using VNC to my computer at home, but keep getting the same error that the connection has timed out. I tried pinging the IP but that also timed out. I thought it may be a problem from my current location so did a trace route and that connected up till the 16th hop where it failed, the failed hop was at the local exchange of the computer i'm tryin to connect to (emmnsfi). I have also tried to connect using the java version of VCN over the net but that also times out. The computer i am trying to connect to is running XP Pro, and has had its firewall and Router all configured to allow access. I am running Vista and have previously connected under XP but from whithin the same network but using the external ip and not the internal network IP e.g 195.168.**.** any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Vrumm

I may not have a definite answer but I do have a suggestion. I would temporarily remove the firewall from equation and see what happens. Aalso make sure there are no rules in the router. A PING would typically be disallowed by a firewall. =============== Try to telnet directly to port 5900 (VNC) on the destination IP address. This will also rule out any application issues. Another question - has this ever worked?
