 cannot add/remove programs , cannot browse network.
windows xp home edition cannot use add remove programs cannot use network neighbourhood I am fixing a friends computer and someone locked the administrative account and all accounts so you cannot uninstall programs or browse the network. I am guessing they edited the registry but i am at a loss as to where to look. any help would be appreciated.

Couple of things to try 1) Start the system in Safe Mode and try to clear the admin password from there. 2) Get hold of a copy of the Linux boot CD which allows you to clear the admin password on most Windows systems. Do not try to change the password, just clear it. Bob

If that doesn’t work, run an installation and use the “Upgrade” path and it will restore system files and reset accounts, while keeping your software and other files in tact.

If they just locked the abilities listed for all accounts and you can still use the administrator account for other administrative issues, try adding a new account with administrative priviledges and check it to see if it can perform the functions you require. That will let you know whether they tied the policy to the specific accounts listed or it is a more general setting.
