Can what I do on my PC be monitored via a cable tap?
Can what I do on my PC be monitored via a direct manually split cable tap on my roof? I have Zonealarm running but it typically asks for GHP services to IP addresses I dont recognize and asks for server and trusted zone access status inexplicably and often

Answer Wiki:
It depends on how your cable company has things configured, but generally anyone on the same node as you (generally your neighborhood or apartment building) will be able to see your internet traffic, so one of these people could use a packet scraper to see your data. Always use https and other secure protocols when ever possible. You never know where your traffic goes.

If you are curious about the IPs that Zonealarm could be referencing, contact the company. Is GHP Google Home Page? Are you running any P2P programs?

I would be suspicious of this.

To clarify,

GHP Services = Generic Host Process for Win32 and I do sometimes use uTorrent, but do not know if this qualifies as ‘peer-to-peer’ software. Firefoc asks first for ‘trusted server’ rights and then for ‘server’ rights in quick succession, many times over and this is not dependant on whether uTorrent is running.

I would recommend to install some good anti-spyware program, and run a full scan on your computer.
