Answer Wiki:
If you can export your GL data out to an XML file, or a delimited text file or an Access database file of some sort (among other file types), you should easily be able to import that data into Excel. Some programs will let you export directly to an Excel file type.

I want general ledger listing for a given period..

Where is your General Ledger? What is it stored in? (What system? What platform? What application/product?)

If you will be performing this procedure often, then I suggest you use a 3rd party data migration software. Check out EzySolutions by Gesix. EzySolutions is a user and process efficiency tool that seamlessly integrates Excel with SAP to download, modify and upload any SAP R/3 data.

…integrates Excel with SAP to download, modify and upload any SAP R/3 data.

…which is generally a very bad idea and should be avoided at almost all costs. Generally, it should be forbidden by any SAP administrator.
