Can someone guide about the career path?
Hello. I am Rahul. I have three qualifications viz, CISA CISM & CISSP. I cleared the exams and got into consulting in one of the big four (the first job)and still there curently. The question is to be really good in the IT security field, is it neccesary to work in technology exposed areas and companies? Some say that having some technical or technological experience to get started, may be as a network or system administrator. Can somebody assist to get me started and feeling confident in the IT security domain? Your comments are welcome. Cheers

Answer Wiki:
Hands on experience is valued in the IT indistry, but so is a strong conceptual knowledge about the various solutions available. Your strength will be in your ability to make recommendations that identify the proper solutions (right size, right cost, right functionality) for the problems at hand. History show that IT related consultants working outside IT business (for business consulting companies) are loosing touch with technology. Therefore, you should consider moving to some bih IT company. Looking at your Big4 backgeound you will probably get the job far away from technology, but will be in constant contact with pure technical consultants. According to Gartner, problem you described is also reckogniced by the market. Therefore, pragmatic business solutions are more valuabe then ever, and consultants ofering them too.
