Can I restore a SQL 2000 backup to a new SQL Server 2005?

Can I restore a SQL 2000 backup to my new SQL Server 2005? Will I have to perform any other steps or can I do a simple backup and restore? Windows 2008 Server.

All you’ll need to do is a backup and restore.

You will want to update the statistics within the database after the restore is done as the SQL 2005 optomizer can’t use the SQL 2000 statistics.

After you restore to a SQL 2005 server you won’t be able to backup the database and move it back to a SQL 2000 server.
