Can I get a holistic view of applications, like SharePoint, that leverage the capabilities of a number of underlying technologies like SQL Server, IIS, and Virtual Server / Hyper-V? We need to know that SharePoint is performing badly, but we need to know which underlying technology or hardware component is actually causing the fault. Answer Wiki:
Within Operations Manager, you can create a "Distributed Application" that maps the entire application across servers as well as infrastructure. You can import that into Service Manager to create a Service Map that incidents can be generated against and will help identify root cause of health and performance situations. Now if that application had PRO enabled Management Packs you could also automate some of the recovery before the end user sees a problem.
