I'm working a software test engineer. What are the things I should learn to improve my testing knowledge as well as to move the next level?

Experience with a variety of both O/S and Platforms.
A good understanding of the purpose of the software under test, and the related non computer aspects of that purpose (i.e. if you are testing financing software aimed at car dealerships, it would be helpful to have some back ground in both banking AND car selling)
A strong command of the English Language (or what whatever native language the result will be reported.)
Proper word usage and sentence structure will add credibility to your test results.
The ability to make any criticism received constructive.

It is important to start thinking as the most curious (and/or unfriendly) user you can imagine, and try to be the bad guy who can always make a program fail. You have to be a filter. A good one.
