 bootp and virtual hostnames
I'm receiving a bootp request from a client machine on my bootp server. My server is not responding, and I think the problem is the that request is being sent to the hostname of the virtual IP (hostname_vip found in /etc/hostname.ce1:1 file). I see the name for the destination in the request message from snoop I'm runnning. The machine only knows its own hostname so it discards the bootp request and never replies. Does anyone know how to get around this problem?

Hi, I'm not very familiar with the bootp servers (novadays dhcp servers do this job), but AFAIK, hostnames should not be involved in the communication between the server and client - just IP's and broadcast requests... Anyway, you can start some packet logger (tcpdump) on the correct interface of the server, trace any relevant packets and find out are you correct about your assumption about the wrong ip in /etc/hostname.ce1:1 BR, Petko
