boot sequence
Hi, Could someone please help me to find the boot sequence on a Tosiba laptop with the platform of Windows2000 professional? I am trying to rebuilt it with the image CD's of WindowsXP, and could not find the boot sequence to boot the system from the CD-ROM via the save mode (F8); Or do I need to do find the boot seuence to do the rebuild? Thanks so much in advance.

Not being familliar with Toshiba notebooks, I'm not sure of the key or keystroke combination used, but you'll need to enter the "system setup" or "BIOS configuration" in order to adjust the boot sequence.
On an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad system, for example, pressing "F2" at the start of the boot sequence (a prompt appears on the screen) BEFORE your O/S starts to load brings you to the system configuration tool, where you can set a bunch of things (COM port settings; LPT port type and settings, etc...) including the boot sequence. The default I usually use is CD/DVD-ROM, Floppy (if present), Hard Drive and PXE (network).
Once you adjust system to look for an O/S on the CD/DVD drive before the HDD, you should be OK.

To enter the BIOS, press the Esc key when the Toshiba script shows up on the display. You should then get a message to press the F1 key to continue. Press the F1 key and you should be in the BIOS. The Boot sequence is on Page 2 of the Bios settings on many Toshibas. To get to page 2 press the page down key. Make sure you follow the screen prompts because your system may be slightly different.
When you make the CDROM drive the first boot device, it enables the PC to boot from it. Make the hard drive second, and the floppy disc third. If there are other selections in your version of BIOS, let them follow after the above sequence.
Put the CD with the OS into the CDROM drive and reboot the PC.
When the message displays,”Press any key to boot from CDROM”, hit the spacebar on your keyboard.
OR:
If you have the 4 floppy boot disc set, change the boot order with the floppy first, the CDROM second, and the hard drive last. All others following.
Put the floppy in the floppy disc drive, as well as the CD in the CDROM drive, and reboot the PC.
Follow directions to complete the set-up.
